To help with public relation projects for the Bibb County School System.

  1. The Learning Curve – through a partnership with Peyton Anderson Foundation and The Telegraph, Education First produces a weekly page covering the good work happening in our public schools.
  2. Web-site in development that will carry information regarding public school information that will be able to downloaded and copied to a CD for distribution.
  3. GEICO partnership allowing Mercer summer interns to work on the Bibb County website
  4. Assist the Chamber committee by offering forum and educational media regarding fiscal independence for the school system.

After-School Programs
Mike Van Wyck

To ensure availability of quality after school programs.

  1. To assist in evaluating the ASP in order to satisfy federal grants requirement
    a. Contract with Dr. Chris Grant to develop and manage evaluation
  2. To provide a sustainability model for ASP after grant dollars are dispersed
    a. Dr. Peter Brown offered a sustainability model
  3. To provide a transition model for ASP as one model a quality program is used throughout the system.
    a. Contract with Dr. Dee Russell to provide a model for quality ASP program

0-5 School Readiness
Cyndey Busbee

To ensure children are ready to learn by the time they enter school at age 5.

  1. To ensure availability of quality child care experiences for 0-5
    a. Apply for ELOA grant
    b. Kaboom rebuild for day care centers
  2. To assist in identifying gaps in services available to 0-5 population
    a. Create matrix of services in Bibb County area
  3. To ensure the Bibb community is aware of available services.
    a. Increase awareness of 211 service
    b. Create phone-tree for 0-5 services to be used by 211
  4. Work with DECAL to determine best roadmap for our community
    a. Meet with state leaders
    b. Determine Bibb’s elegibility in state program
    c. Establish the expectation for quality early learning
    d. Explore transition plans for movement into schools

Teacher Retention and Recruitment
Palmira Braswell

To assist in recruiting and retaining quality teachers and leaders in the Bibb County Schools.

  1. Identify needs and areas that the community can offer support to our teachers and administrators.
  2. Recognize the good work of our teachers
    a. Co-host Teacher of the Year Banquet
    b. Attend New Teacher Banquet hosted by the Chamber
    c. Community thank you notes
    d. Recognize retiring principals
    e. Learning Curve stories
  3. Support innovative teaching strategies and the community’s desire to support public schools through a web based donation site
    a. Development of Education First website
  4. Recognize quality teaching by supporting teachers who are seeking their National Board Certification
  5. Retention exploration- what can we do to support recruiting strategies
